Michael Geiger has practiced law since 1989 with emphasis on complex commercial, intellectual property, environmental, personal injury, toxic tort, property damage, and insurance matters. During his 19 years serving as in-house counsel, he also maintained direct responsibility for employment, securities, construction defect, and worker’s compensation claims. As the Assistant General Counsel responsible for all litigation both nationally and globally at a publicly traded company, Michael participated in hundreds of mediations across the U.S. and internationally. Michael’s diverse work history incudes a judicial clerkship, private practice at large law firms, and in-house positions.
Michael is admitted to practice law in TN, NY and NJ. Since 2004, he has been listed by the TN Supreme Court as a Rule 31 Mediator. Michael serves on the mediation panel for U.S District Court, Western District of TN. Michael is a certified arbitrator by FINRA and also conducts FINRA mediations. Michael serves on the Executive Council for the TN Bar Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Section and also participates in the ADR sections of the ABA and Memphis Bar. He frequently writes on ADR topics and has published articles throughout his legal career.
By turning his practice and focus exclusively to serving as a neutral, Michael continues to hone the skills necessary to more successfully mediate and arbitrate. Michael possesses significant experiences with the unpredictability of the litigation process and its results; the interminable delays associated with those processes; and the extreme cost inefficiencies of litigation. The primary goals of Michael’s ADR practice, especially through mediation, remain avoidance of these litigation frustrations while assisting parties in crafting their own creative solutions not necessarily confined by the legal claims or processes.
